Goodreads Blurb:
First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations. The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince.
As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you?
My Thoughts:
I had so many expectations for this book, mostly as I had seen SO many great reviews for this on instagram and goodreads – so I feel that is why it took me so long to start this book. It was only comming across and accidentlly watching the trailer for the ‘Red, White and Royal Blue’ film that will be released next month on Prime that really kicked me into gear to read tis book. To answer your question, were my expectations met? Very much so, so much that they were exceeded. This was a delightfully wonderful (and stressful) read.
First up I found the concept for this romance, while almost farfetched, rather delightful. I just love the idea of a fake relationship becoming something more, especially in such wild circumstances such as these. In this case, it made for some really funny and sweet moments.
I really liked the main male characters – Alex and Henry – yes, they were flawed, but I think a more flawed character is always more interesting to read about. Their relationship was really sweet too. There is always something so delightful about knowing two characters are destined for each other but they don’t know it yet, so much so that they seemingly detest each other.
I loved reading the letters they sent each other over email too, and the texts. They really showed their true characters in those letter, which really made them interesting for me. There was something very open about them, which felt different to the personalities of the characters when they are in the public eye – a detail I really liked.
I definitely wasn’t expecting to get as stressed over Alex and Henry, and their relationship as I was by the end of the novel. Yet, there I was at nearly two in the morning determined to find out how the novel ended before I went to sleep. Then I had trouble sleeping as the conclusion kept stuck in my mind.
I had so much fun reading this one! I recommend it for anyone who is wanting a fun, steamy romance to read with great characters and an interesting plot.
